The mechanisms contributing to spinal stability continue to elude researchers. The persistent efforts in deciphering the mechanisms affording spinal stability are warranted by the enormous global economic burden caused by back pain which produces more disability than any other condition. However, one may not logically conceive solutions for spinal instability, linked to back pain, when the biomechanics of the healthy stable spine are not understood.聽
The study of musculoskeletal biomechanics is truly interdisciplinary provided it builds on knowledge from engineering, rehabilitation therapist, and physicians. 聽The musculoskeletal biomechanics research lab has working collaborations between these key ares of expertise.
